Did you know Europe isn’t just for spring through fall travel?

You can absolutely head to Europe in winter and still enjoy warm, sunny weather!

If you’re craving a break from snow and grey skies, but aren’t feeling the Caribbean, these are the warmest destinations in Europe during winter that I often recommend to my clients:

Canary Islands (Spain) – Warmest in Europe
Average temps: 20–24°C

Located off the coast of Africa, the Canaries deliver true winter sun. Tenerife offers variety and Mount Teide, Lanzarote is known for its volcanic landscapes and unique architecture, and Gran Canaria blends dunes, beaches, and charming villages. Think ocean swims, coastal hikes, whale watching, and relaxed resort stays, in January.

Madeira (Portugal)
Average temps: 18–22°C

Often called the “Island of Eternal Spring,” Madeira is lush, dramatic, and perfect for active travellers. Cliffside views, botanical gardens, levada hikes, and beautiful oceanfront hotels make this a fantastic winter escape.
